MPC Technology in Action

Facts About Catalysts:

More than 90% of new passenger vehicles are now fitted with auto catalysts. The catalyst sits in the exhaust system, either near to the engine, or further down the tailpipe. Harmful gases are converted to harmless products in a reaction with the precious metal-containing catalyst.

Gasoline fueled vehicles typically use a 3-way catalyst, so-called because it converts 3 pollutants, carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) to carbon dioxide (CO2), water (H20) and nitrogen (N2).

Diesel engines require a diesel oxidation catalyst to remove CO and HC and can also reduce particulate matter (PM) by up to 50%. More effective PM removal is achieved with diesel particulate filter systems.


Catalyst Division

Reduce emissions from gasoline, diesel and natural gas combustion engines with advanced materials for catalyst formulations.

This division primarily serves the light duty vehicle market - including major automaker customers and other original equipment manufacturers, or OEMs. This is where we sell our proprietary, low-platinum group metals advanced catalytic coatings which accelerate the breakdown of exhaust gasses. Globally, this market is estimated to reach $7.7 billion by 2017, according to a report issued by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

Standards have been adopted worldwide to regulate the emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx), particulate matter (PM), carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) from motor vehicles. In the United States, emissions standards are managed by the Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA. The state of California has special dispensation to promulgate more stringent vehicle emissions standards through the California Air Resources Board, or CARB, and other states may choose to follow either the national or California standards.

Our Catalyst Division products are based on our proprietary Mixed Phase Catalyst, or MPC®, technology which we have formulated for use in gasoline, diesel and natural gas emissions applications. Using this technology, we have developed a family of unique high-performance catalysts featuring inexpensive base metals with low or even zero platinum group metal content that are customized and designed to reduce harmful emissions while meeting stringent emissions regulations.

With superior performance, proven durability, significant cost advantage and use in a wide range of applications, our underlying MPC® technology provides a competitive advantage in the markets we serve.

Our catalyst products are highly differentiated from competing products because they offer similar, or better, performance while using little or no platinum group metals. Our Catalyst Division has supplied over 11 million catalyst parts to light duty vehicle customers since 1996.

We currently supply our catalyst products featuring our proprietary MPC® technology to OEMs in both the light duty vehicle category (including Honda) and the heavy duty diesel category (including Cummins and Navistar).

Additional catalysts for which testing is currently underway include our Spinel®, SPGM™ DOC and BMARS™ technologies.

Our proprietary catalyst products are manufactured at our facility in Oxnard, California.
