Diesel Oxidation Catalysts (DOCs)
Pollution in the exhaust emitted by diesel fueled engines is a main contributor to the poor air quality found in today's society.
Even with the stricter standards for today's heavy duty diesel engines, many existing trucks and buses continue to emit harmful amounts of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and diesel particulate matter (PM) which contributes to very serious health issues and a significant burden on our healthcare spending.
Fortunately, with the advances in technology, we are now able to produce devices to reduce the amount of pollutants which are an unwanted bi-product of older, diesel fueled trucks and buses. Using pollution controlling devices such as a diesel oxidation catalyst is an excellent example of a device that can be utilized to upgrade a diesel engine or "retrofit" it in order to pollute less.
What is a DOC?
A diesel oxidation catalyst, or DOC, is a device that utilizes a chemical process in order to break down pollutants from a diesel engine in the exhaust stream, turning them into less harmful components, similar to an automobile's catalytic converter.
Diesel oxidation catalysts are normally honeycomb-shaped configurations coated in a catalyst designed to trigger a chemical reaction to reduce gaseous emissions and PM.
Diesel oxidation catalysts typically reduce emissions of PM by 20% to 40% or more and gaseous emissions by 50% to 70%.
The CDTi difference in DOCs.
Reduce vibration and exhaust backpressure with the DZ and EZ Purifier™.
We also offer DOCs supported on a metallic substrate which affords exceptional resistance to vibration and the lowest possible exhaust backpressure. Our DZ series of DOCs were the first in the industry to feature quick-release band clamps.
This allows the center body to be readily removed for periodic engine-out opacity measurements or for purifier cleaning.
The DZ Purifier™ is also available with modular add-on DMS and DMXS silencers. The EZ Purifier™ offers the same metallic substrate-based catalyst as the DZ Purifier™, but it is in an all-welded purifier to afford the most compact size and lower cost. These types of products are typically industry standard on underground mining equipment around the world.
