Off-Road: Mining

Like most off-road equipment, machinery used in the mining industry has a unique set of challenges to meet optimal emission reduction levels.

Mining vehicles operating underground in poorly ventilated areas, running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week present particularly challenging and important environmental concerns. If untreated, the diesel exhaust being emitted from these vehicles is inhaled by the operators before dissipating. Increased exposure to diesel exhaust is a factor in heart and lung disease and a possible carcinogen affecting your workers’ health, safety and productivity.

The harmful components of diesel exhaust include particulate matter (PM), carbon monoxide (CO), and hydrocarbons (HC).

Existing mining equipment is not practical to repower and is too expensive to replace to achieve target emissions reduction goals. We offer a number of retrofit solutions designed specifically for mining applications, which are industry leading verified solutions. In addition, our application engineering approach to emission control mandates is the difference between a one-size-fits-all solution and a comfortable custom-fit solution insuring quick and easy installations.

Our retrofit solutions include:

  • AZ Purifier™ and Purimuffler® diesel oxidation catalysts supported on a ceramic substrate affording excellent low temperature emissions reduction performance as well as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Air Resources Board (ARB) verifications. Certified by the Sweden Environmental Zone program and approved under the UK Energy Saving Trust Transport Energy Clean Up Program.
  • DZ and EZ Purifier™ diesel oxidation catalysts supported on a metallic substrate which affords exceptional resistance to vibration and affords the lowest possible exhaust backpressure.
  • Cattrap® passively regenerating diesel particulate filter which incorporates a base metal catalyst to provide PM reduction without any increase in nitrogen dioxide (NO2) emissions. Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) approved.
  • Combifilter® actively regenerated diesel particulate filter system that removes PM while reducing NO2 emissions. The system is comprised of an integrated diesel particulate filter and silencer assembly, and an off-board regeneration control panel or station. VERT verified for off-road (Type V and K); approved under the Sweden Environmental Zones for off-road (Types V, K and S) and MSHA approved.
  • Our solutions for the mining industry are designed specifically for lowering emissions and maximizing performance without increasing harmful secondary emissions such as NO2.

    Underground mining machines have been equipped by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with emission control devices for over 20 years and our ECS-branded products have been on a number of those machines. As emission reduction technology has advanced, we have continued to pioneer the use of our advanced technologies in underground mining applications. We offer technologies tailored for the mining industry, including Cattrap® and Combifilter® Off-Board, and customize our other advanced technologies for use in underground applications, including the AZ Severe Duty Purimuffler®.
